Delhi Hospital Fire: Over a month after a devastating fire at an East Delhi children’s hospital claimed the lives of seven newborns and injured five, one infant continues to fight for her life, grappling with breathing complications and burn injuries.
Parents Rakesh and Karishma vividly recall the traumatic night, standing anxiously outside the hospital balcony, desperate to learn if their first child had survived.
The tragedy struck on May 26 at Baby Care New Born Hospital in East Delhi’s Vivek Vihar area. The fire resulted in the deaths of seven newborns and left five others injured, four of whom have since been discharged after receiving treatment.
“My daughter still has breathing issues following the fire, but her burn marks are gradually healing,” said Rakesh. “She remains under treatment at Chacha Nehru Bal Chikitsalaya”.
Rakesh expressed deep concern for their daughter’s future, stating that they have decided not to inform her about her burn scars but are determined to seek justice for the families who lost their children in the fire.

“Right now, my wife and I are dedicating all our time to the hospital. We’ve both taken leave from work to focus on her recovery,” he added.
Police investigations revealed that the hospital had been operating with an expired license, without qualified doctors, and lacked clearance from the fire department. (With inputs from PTI)
