Delhi Water Minister Atishi raised concerns on Tuesday regarding a potential severe water crisis looming over the national capital due to delayed funds to the DJB.
Appealing to LG V K Saxena for intervention, the minister highlighted that despite her written directives, as the holder of the finance portfolio, funds crucial for the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) had not been disbursed.
“The absence of these funds threatens routine operations and salary disbursements. Contractors have halted their work, exacerbating the risk of a water crisis, sewage overflow, and contaminated water in Delhi,”she expressed.
Moreover, she asserted that the Finance Department had not released the funds based on instructions from Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar.
There has been no immediate response from the chief secretary’s office or the Finance Department. (With Inputs from PTI)
