Delhi lost the chance to advance to the knockout round of the Vijay Hazare one-day tournament, after losing to Haryana by 53 runs on Friday in Ahmedabad.
Despite having India international pacers Ishant Sharma (0/48 in six overs) and Navdeep Saini (2/62 in nine overs) in the ranks, Delhi could not stop Haryana from scoring 293/6 in 50 overs. In response, the Yash Dhull-captained team were bowled out for 240 in 49.1 overs with Himmat Singh (80 off 86 balls) and Jonty Sidhu (55 off 67 balls) being the only batsmen to put up some resistance.
While Saini provided early breakthroughs, veteran Ishant failed to pick any wicket.
Delhi had Haryana on the ropes at one point, reducing them to 165/6 by the 38th over. However, IPL star Rahul Tewatia hammered 99 not out off 70 balls (10x4s, 5x6s) and Sumit Kumar powered to unbeaten 55 off 35 balls (4x4s, 4x6s) as the duo shared an undefeated 128-run partnership for the sixth wicket in 74 balls to bring Haryana back.
Delhi started cautiously, crossing 150 with the loss of three wickets but the pressure created by a rising required run rate led to the loss of middle-order wickets. Delhi were eventually bundled out for 240.
Delhi, in sixth place, in the eight-team pool, now play Chandigarh on December 3.
