The Delhi Traffic Police have issued an advisory for the upcoming Independence Day function’s full dress rehearsal on August 13. The goal is to ensure a seamless flow of traffic during the event.
During the rehearsal, several roads will be closed to the general public from 4 am to 11 am. These roads include Netaji Subhash Marg, Lothian Road, S.P Mukherjee Marg, Chandni Chowk Road, Nishad Raj Marg, Esplanade Road and its Link Road, Ring Road from Rajghat to ISBT, and Outer Ring Road from ISBT to IP Flyover.
For vehicles without parking labels for the rehearsal, it’s recommended to avoid certain areas such as C-Hexagon, India Gate, Copernicus Marg, Mandi House, Sikandra Road, W Point, A point Tilak Marg, Mathura Road, BSZ Marg, Netaji Subhash Marg, J L Nehru Marg, Ring Road between Nizamuddin Khatta and ISBT Kashmere Gate, and Outer Ring Road from Nizamuddin Khatta to ISBT Kashmere Gate via Salimgarh bypass.
Commuters traveling between north Delhi and south Delhi should consider alternative routes like Aurobindo Marg, Safdarjung Road, Kamal Ataturk Marg, Kautilya Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Park Street, Mandir Marg, and Rani Jhansi Road.
In the east-west corridor, vehicles are advised to follow alternate routes including NH-24, Nizamuddin Khatta, Barapula Road (under AIIMS Flyover), Ring Road, Mathura Road, Subramania Bharti Marg, Rajesh Pilot Marg, Prithviraj Road, and Safdarjung Road. Notably, the Old Iron Bridge and Geeta Colony Bridge towards Shanti Van will be closed.
From August 12 midnight to 11 am on August 13, the movement of goods vehicles between Nizamuddin and Wazirabad bridges will be restricted. Similarly, interstate buses won’t be allowed between Maharana Pratap ISBT and Sarai Kale Khan ISBT during this time.
City buses, including Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) buses, will not operate on Ring Road from midnight on August 12 to 11 am on August 13. Instead, they can take alternative routes such as G T Road, Wazirabad Road, and NH-24.
Routes of buses terminating at Red Fort, Jama Masjid, and Delhi main railway station will be adjusted, curtailed, or diverted. However, alternative routes will remain open to facilitate travel to railway stations, bus stations, and hospitals near the Independence Day function venue. (With inputs from PTI)
