Delhi Rains: Three labourers are feared trapped following the collapse of an under-construction wall in the Vasant Vihar area of southwest Delhi, officials said on Friday.
The Delhi Fire Service (DFS) received the distress call at 5:30 am and promptly dispatched five fire tenders to the scene.
A senior police officer said that three construction workers are suspected to be stuck in the mud slush, though the exact number is yet to be confirmed.
Teams from NDRF, DDMA, civic agencies, fire services, and police are currently at the site, actively engaged in rescue operations.
Divers and fire personnel are conducting searches, as the trapped workers are believed to be in a deep pit caused by the collapse.
Heavy rainfall earlier in the day led to significant waterlogging across various parts of Delhi, exacerbating traffic congestion on several key roads.
At the New Delhi Railway Station, commuters navigated through knee-deep water, while metro stations in some areas also experienced flooding.
Traffic disruptions were reported on multiple routes including Anuvrat Marg, Ring Road, Vir Banda Bairagi Marg, Aurobindo Marg, Outer Ring Road, Tilak Bridge W-point, Rohtak Road, Mathura Road, Road No. 13, and Minto Road due to waterlogging and other incidents.
The collapse of a portion of Terminal-1 at Delhi airport, caused by heavy rain, resulted in one fatality and left six others injured, including passengers in taxis. Flight departures were temporarily halted following the incident.
