Delhi experienced a warm start to the day on Friday, with the minimum temperature recorded at 25.6 degrees Celsius—four degrees above the season’s average—according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The weather department has predicted strong surface winds through the day, while the maximum temperature is likely to hover around 39 degrees Celsius. At 8:30 am, humidity levels stood at 47 per cent.
Air quality in the national capital remained a concern, slipping into the ‘poor’ category with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 201 recorded at 9 am, as per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). An AQI between 201 and 300 is categorised as ‘poor’, indicating potential health risks for sensitive groups.
Thursday was even hotter, with the mercury peaking at 40.6 degrees Celsius—3.8 degrees above normal—marking one of the highest temperatures of the season. The minimum temperature was recorded at 25.7 degrees Celsius, also well above the average by 4.1 degrees. Humidity levels on Thursday ranged from 47 to 32 per cent.
The capital had earlier recorded a maximum of 40.2 degrees Celsius on April 7. The highest minimum temperature so far this season was 25.9 degrees Celsius on April 10.
