UDAI school in New Delhi celebrates Christmas with children with special needs

UDAI, a leading special school in the capital, successfully hosted a Christmas Carnival on Thursday at its Janak Puri centre, celebrating children on the autism spectrum and from underprivileged backgrounds. The event was supported by the Rotary Club of Delhi.

Organised in the spirit of World Disability Day, observed globally on December 3, the winter-themed carnival highlighted the school’s ethos that “Working Together Works.” Students were joined by their families and members of the media for a day of interactive activities, festive stalls, and performances.

Children ran stalls featuring handmade Christmas goodies, adding an authentic carnival feel while also showcasing their creativity and skills. The event aimed to promote inclusion, community engagement, and empowerment, allowing each child to shine in their unique way.

Founder Tanu Rajput said the celebration was “truly heart-warming,” praising the children for their energy, talent, and kindness. “I feel proud of my kids, who are special but no less than anyone. It was wonderful to share such a meaningful and festive moment with them,” she said.

UDAI supports around 125 children on the autism spectrum along with over 90 students from lower-income families daily, providing access to quality education and care. Since its inception in 2009, the organisation has assisted more than 5,000 families and continues to develop income-generating programs to train students in skills development.
