The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) announced on Friday that the construction of the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) viaduct in the Delhi section is expected to conclude by the end of April.
Officials disclosed that track-laying activities, along with electric traction and signalling work, are currently in progress in the New Ashok Nagar-Sahibabad section.
The completion of the Delhi section, spanning approximately 14 kilometers, is anticipated by the year-end, allowing for trial runs between Delhi and Sahibabad, according to NCRTC authorities.
Highlighting the progress, officials mentioned that less than 500 meters of the viaduct in the Delhi section remains to be constructed, with the scheduled completion set for the end of the month. The section comprises nine kilometers of elevated track and five kilometers of underground track.
Construction of over eight kilometers of viaduct has already been accomplished, in addition to the entire underground section of about five kilometers. Key RRTS stations, including Sarai Kale Khan, New Ashok Nagar, and Anand Vihar (underground), have taken shape, with finishing works underway.
Once the Delhi section is operational, passenger movement can commence from Sarai Kale Khan to the currently operational Sahibabad-Modi Nagar North section and beyond.
The RRTS network includes a five-kilometer underground section in Delhi, with four tunnels constructed to connect the Anand Vihar underground station with the New Ashok Nagar RRTS station in the Delhi direction and the Sahibabad RRTS station in the Ghaziabad direction.
Emphasizing multi-modal integration, officials noted that the RRTS aligns with the Prime Minister’s Gatishakti National Master Plan for enhancing connectivity across various modes of transportation, such as bus stands, airports, metro stations, and railway stations.
The Sarai Kale Khan station is designed for seamless integration with adjacent transport modes, including Veer Haqiqat Rai ISBT, Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station, and Delhi Metro Pink Line, featuring four tracks and six platforms at the same level.
Additionally, a 280-meter foot overbridge with six travelators is being constructed to connect the RRTS station to the Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station.
Similarly, the New Ashok Nagar RRTS station is connected to the Ashok Nagar Metro station via a 90-meter-long foot overbridge, with two more under construction to enhance accessibility.
