Delhi’s Water Minister, Atishi, announced on Friday her intention to launch an investigation into the nearly 8-month backlog of sewer-related issues to ensure accountability.
Addressing the Delhi Assembly on water and sewer problems, she emphasized the rare unity between the opposition and ruling parties in seeking solutions.
Atishi highlighted recent efforts to address sewer issues within days, questioning why they had lingered for so long. She acknowledged the lack of coordination between departments and pledged to address it.
Stressing the unprecedented challenges faced by Delhi’s infrastructure amid rapid urbanization, she called for cooperation to resolve issues, including water allocation disputes with neighboring states.
Atishi also disclosed plans for groundwater augmentation and setting timelines for sewer desilting.
She mentioned signing an MoU with Himachal Pradesh for water release, but lamented Haryana’s opposition, urging BJP support.
Atishi also revealed Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar’s personal commitment to groundwater augmentation.
Earlier, she had expressed dismay over the Delhi Jal Board’s failure to address thousands of complaints, urging a more effective grievance system.( With Inputs from PTI)
