Strong tremors were felt across Delhi and parts of the National Capital Region on Thursday morning after a low-intensity earthquake struck Haryana’s Jhajjar district.
The quake, which measured 4.4 on the Richter Scale, occurred at 9:04 AM at a depth of 10 kilometres, officials said. No casualties or damage have been reported.
The National Centre for Seismology confirmed the epicentre was located at latitude 28.63°N and longitude 76.68°E in Jhajjar. Tremors were reported in Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, and Faridabad as well.

While minor earthquakes are not unusual in Delhi, the region’s underlying seismic vulnerability continues to be a concern. The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) notes that the city lies in Seismic Zone IV, which indicates a “fairly high” risk of earthquakes.
Geologists link the region’s seismic activity to the Delhi-Haridwar Ridge, a prominent fault line running beneath the area. Most quakes in the city fall in the 5–6 magnitude range, though stronger tremors of 7–8 magnitude are considered occasional but possible, making preparedness crucial.
