Election Results 2024: As many as 148 out of 162 candidates (91 percent) on Delhi’s seven seats have lost their security deposits in the Lok Sabha elections, according to the Election Commission.
In Chandni Chowk, 23 candidates forfeited their deposits; in New Delhi, 15; in South Delhi, 20; in East Delhi, 18; in West Delhi, 22; in North East Delhi, 26; and in North West Delhi, 24 candidates lost their deposits.

According to the Election Commission’s rules, a candidate must achieve at least one-sixth (16.67 percent) of the total polled votes in the constituency to retain the security deposit, which is Rs 25,000 for general candidates and Rs 12,500 for Scheduled Caste candidates.
The ruling AAP in Delhi was contesting in alliance with the Congress, with a four-three formula in Delhi. However, the BJP made a clean sweep in all seven seats in Delhi.
In all seven seats, except for the winners (BJP) and runners-up (AAP-Congress alliance), all remaining contenders failed to save their security deposits.
The BSP candidates, who contested all seven seats, remained in third position.
Except for the 14 winners and runners-up, none of the other candidates managed to cross the figure of 20,000 votes. Ashok Kumar Gupta, an Independent candidate from Chandni Chowk, secured just 140 votes, the lowest tally in all seven constituencies. (With inputs from PTI)
