Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday said the government and private healthcare sector must work together to expand medical infrastructure and achieve the World Health Organisation’s benchmark of five hospital beds per 1,000 people.
Speaking at the inauguration of an advanced In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) centre at Sant Parmanand Hospital in Civil Lines, Gupta said that in accordance with the vision of the Prime Minister, the Delhi Government is continuously working towards making Delhi a global medical hub.
“At present, the Delhi government is able to provide two beds per 1,000 people in Delhi, while the combined availability of beds through the government and private sectors is approximately 2.5 per 1,000 people,” she said.
“The government is committed to making Delhi a medical hub and is working extensively in this direction. To achieve this target at the earliest, the government and the private healthcare sector will have to work together so that medical infrastructure can be expanded and people can access better healthcare facilities,” Gupta said.
The new IVF centre has been established with the objective of providing modern medical facilities, expert consultation and advanced treatment to couples facing infertility and other reproductive health-related challenges.
Gupta also invited Sant Parmanand Hospital to submit a proposal for a new healthcare project in collaboration with the Delhi government under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
“The Delhi Government will extend all possible support to initiatives aimed at strengthening healthcare infrastructure and providing the best medical facilities to the people,” Gupta said.
Congratulating the hospital’s doctors and management, she appreciated their contribution to healthcare services and recalled the role played by the institute during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Gupta said the newly inaugurated IVF centre would bring hope to couples facing infertility and reproductive health challenges and help them access specialised treatment and medical guidance.
B G Bangur, chairman of Sant Parmanand Hospital, said the centre marked an important milestone in the expansion of the hospital’s specialised healthcare services.
“The dream of becoming parents holds a very special emotional significance in the life of every couple. Our endeavour is to provide such couples with modern medical technology, sensitive care, reliable treatment and expert medical guidance,” Bangur said.
The inauguration ceremony was also attended by Dr S Rajagopal, Executive Director; Sudhir Maheshwari, Secretary; Ashok Soni, Vice Chairman along with members of the hospital management, senior doctors and other guests.
The newly established IVF Centre equipped with modern technology will provide couples with specialised consultation for reproductive health issues, necessary diagnostic investigations and appropriate treatment facilities, the hospital said.
