The Centre’s panel on Delhi-NCR’s air quality reinstated stage 3 restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) due to a rise in air pollution caused by unfavourable meteorological conditions, according to an official order.
Air pollution levels in Delhi showed a worsening trend, with the 24-hour average Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 380 at 9:00 AM on Saturday.
Forecasts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology indicated that the air quality is likely to deteriorate further due to adverse weather conditions.
The Commission for Air Quality Management, tasked with devising air pollution mitigation strategies for Delhi-NCR, instructed regional authorities to immediately implement stage 3 curbs to prevent a further decline in air quality.
Stage 3 of GRAP, which had been lifted last Friday, includes a ban on non-essential construction activities.
Schools up to grade V are required to switch to a hybrid mode of learning under Stage 3, allowing parents and students the option to choose online education where available.
The use of BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel cars (four-wheelers) is restricted in Delhi and adjoining NCR districts under Stage 3, with exemptions for persons with disabilities.

Additionally, Stage 3 prohibits the operation of non-essential diesel-powered medium goods vehicles with BS-IV or older standards in Delhi.
