In the past 15 days, civic authorities in the national capital have conducted 301 demolition activities to crack down on unauthorized construction, according to officials.
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) revealed that 77 sealing actions were taken across its 12 zones during the same period.
The MCD emphasised its ongoing efforts to curb unauthorized constructions in various areas, particularly in unauthorized colonies and agricultural lands.
The recent demolition activity, which took place in 18 locations including Mohan Garden, Pushp Vihar, Madangir, Vasant Kunj, Jamia Nagar, Jaitpur, Trilokpuri, Burari, and Nangloi, resulted in the demolition of 21 properties.
These structures were rendered unusable and cannot be renovated further, the statement noted. The MCD assured that safety precautions were implemented during the demolitions. In 21 instances, owners/occupiers were prosecuted for their criminal liability.
Additionally, the electricity and water connections of these unauthorized constructions were disconnected by Discoms and Delhi Jal Board.
The MCD said that the demolition drive was targeted at unscrupulous builders who deceive innocent individuals by promising larger properties at better rates.
The demolition efforts will persist in the upcoming days, said MCD. (With inputs from PTI)
