Delhi’s Lt Governor VK Saxena and Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora inaugurated two All-Women Police Posts (AWPPs) at Khan Market in the city’s central area on Sunday. This initiative marks a significant step towards enhancing gender representation and empowering women in the city’s law enforcement.
“I am very pleased with this historic step by the Delhi Police. Today, we inaugurated two AWPPs, a necessary addition to our city,” Saxena expressed, emphasizing the importance of providing a safe space for women to voice their concerns and seek assistance.
These new AWPPs will serve as accessible and safe environments for women victims to share their problems openly with women officers. Saxena affirmed that the force will ensure immediate action and resolution for their issues.
The idea of establishing AWPPs was prompted by the exceptional performance of Delhi Police’s all-women’s team, recognized as the best marching contingent during this year’s Republic Day parade.
Currently, women constitute 15.17 percent of the Delhi Police force. The Lt Governor pledged to work towards increasing this to 33 percent, aligning with the “Naari Shakti” vision and furthering gender parity in the law enforcement sector.
Saxena also mentioned that the Delhi Police has commenced the process of direct recruitment to bolster its female workforce.
After the inauguration, Saxena personally oversaw the functioning of the newly established AWPPs, underscoring the commitment to make Delhi a safer and more inclusive place for all.
