Man jumps in front of Delhi Metro, dies

The victim was identified as Manish Kumar, a resident of Prem Nagar in Najafgarh

A 31-year-old librarian allegedly jumped in front of a moving train at Delhi Metro’s Najafgarh station and lost his life, police said.

An official said that the police received a distress call at approximately 9:26 am on Monday, alerting them to the incident at Najafgarh station.

A senior officer confirmed the tragic event, stating that the victim was identified as Manish Kumar, a resident of Prem Nagar in Najafgarh. Regrettably, Kumar’s life could not be saved, as he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Kumar, a librarian working in Devprayag, Uttarakhand, leaves behind a grieving family, including his wife and young daughter.

As is customary in such cases, inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) are currently underway to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy. The police are conducting a thorough inquiry to understand the factors that led to this devastating loss.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) said that normal operations were restored within 15 to 20 minutes after the tragic incident. (With inputs from PTI)
