Delhiites woke up to a chilly and foggy morning as the minimum temperature in the national capital on Thursday dropped to 4.8 degrees Celsius, three notches below the season’s average, according to the weather department.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an “orange alert” for dense fog at isolated places in Delhi for Thursday, causing delays for twenty-four trains to New Delhi due to low visibility.
The maximum temperature for the day in the national capital is expected to be around 19 degrees Celsius.
Delhi has witnessed five cold days and five cold wave days in January so far, marking the highest in the past 13 years, as reported by IMD.
The overall Air Quality Index (AQI) in the city registered at 355 at 9 am, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
An AQI between zero and 50 is considered “good,” 51 and 100 “satisfactory,” 101 and 200 “moderate,” 201 and 300 “poor,” 301 and 400 “very poor,” and 401 and 500 “severe.”
The relative humidity at 8.30 am was recorded at 97 per cent, according to the IMD bulletin. ( With inputs from PTI)
