Over 3 kg gold worth Rs 1.67 crore seized at Delhi airport, three arrested

Customs officials at the international airport in the city have apprehended three men for allegedly smuggling gold worth approximately Rs 1.67 crore into the country.

According to officials, the suspects were arrested in separate cases.

They said that two men, who arrived on the same flight from Riyadh, were caught on Saturday, and upon conducting a detailed search of their baggage and person, 2.07 kg of gold was discovered, with one carrying 1.06 kg and the other carrying 1.01 kg.

The value of the seized gold is Rs 1.11 crore. These two accused individuals are reportedly known to each other, they added.

In a separate incident, another man was apprehended on Friday after arriving from Jeddah, and a search of his baggage and person led to the discovery of nine gold chains, weighing 1.04 kg and worth Rs 56.14 lakh, they further added.

All three individuals have been taken into custody, and approximately 3.11 kg of gold, valued at Rs 1.67 crore, was confiscated. The customs department has issued separate press releases regarding each of the cases, said the officials. (With inputs from PTI)
