According to Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena’s office, earlier today, the LG has written to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to clear the year-long pending permissions for tree removal as the delay is impacting several important projects like Central Vista, Metro Phase IV, Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) and Dwarka Expressway.
Regarding the tree removal requests, the Delhi government’s Forest department has to make a decision on the cutting of the trees or their translocation applications within 60 days of them being filed. But in several cases, the applications have not been cleared for more than one year, the office said.
The LG has further pointed out that the delay in clearing these applications and deciding if the trees need to be cut or translocated is causing a waste of public funds due to the time and cost overrun of the projects, the officials stated. The LG has requested the CM to dispose of the pending applications as per the statutory provisions.
Other projects that are delayed due to the pending permission of the Forest department include EMU at Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station, redevelopment of general pool accommodation at Sarojini Nagar, and construction of executive enclave of Central Vista project, construction of residential quarters for CISF among others, according to the officials.
