The new initiative named ‘Plastic Pick-up Chat Bot’ was launched by Ashwini Kumar, Special Officer, MCD, at the Civic Centre here on Wednesday.

According to the officials, QR code stickers will now be pasted at significant places including offices of different market associations and resident welfare associations.

In a statement, the civic body said that the MCD has taken an important step to facilitate collection of plastic waste in collaboration with an NGO.

As per the statement, with this initiative, people can handover their plastic waste to the MCD from the comfort of their home and in turn receive attractive gifts.

Shashanka Ala, Deputy Commissioner of Karol Bagh Zone stated that the MCD will put QR code stickers at offices of market associations, resident welfare associations and other prominent places so that people can easily avail this facility.

People can set up the chat bot by scanning the QR code issued by the corporation. The chat bot will ask for the citizen’s name, mobile number and place for plastic pick-up. Following which, a representative of the NGO will collect plastic waste from their home within 48 hours, Ala said.

Through the initiative, Special Officer Kumar said that the issue of plastic waste disposal will be better solved and plastic will not reach landfill sites.

He added that the MCD will attempt to implement this facility in other zones as well.
