Rain lashes Delhi, waterlogging in many areas

Delhiites woke up to a humid weather with the minimum temperature settling at 29.2 degrees Celsius, two notches above the season's average, according to the IMD

Parts of Delhi experienced heavy rain on Monday, leading to waterlogging and traffic disruptions. However, the rain provided much-needed relief from the heat and humidity.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), light to moderate intensity rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected in the city within the next two hours.

“Light to moderate rainfall, along with light thunderstorms and lightning, is very likely to occur across the entire Delhi area, with gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph,” the weather department said.

Residents of Delhi woke up to humid conditions, with the minimum temperature recorded at 29.2 degrees Celsius, two degrees above the season’s average, as per the IMD. The relative humidity at 8:30 am was 84 per cent. The maximum temperature is predicted to be around 36 degrees Celsius, the weather according to the MeT Department.

Traffic police reported on X, formerly known as Twitter, “Traffic is affected on Ring Road in the carriageway from Ashram Chowk towards Moolchand Underpass due to the breakdown of a truck on Lajpat Nagar flyover. Kindly plan your journey accordingly”.

“Traffic is affected on Rohtak Road in the carriageway from Nangloi towards Tikri Border and vice versa due to sewer overflow and potholes on the road between Rajdhani Park and Mundka. Kindly avoid Mundka, Rohtak Road, and take alternate routes accordingly,” they added.

Traffic is also disrupted in both carriageways of New Rohtak Road due to waterlogging at Anand Parbat near Gali No.10. Kindly plan your journey accordingly.

Additionally, traffic is affected on Ring Road in the carriageway from Lajpat Nagar towards AIIMS due to the breakdown of a bus at Moolchand Underpass. Kindly plan your journey accordingly, the traffic police advised.
