Delhi government orders a probe after videos show e-rickshaws allegedly being remotely disabled through a mobile app

Delhi Transport Minister Pankaj Singh on Friday said that the government will take appropriate action in the matter related to a mobile application being used to shut down E-rickshaws.

Following the circulation of several videos on social media, the Delhi government has ordered a probe into the claims.

“This is a matter of security, and to ensure that people do not face inconvenience or distress, the government will certainly take appropriate action. We also received this information through social media. The transport department was also investigating and checking the matter,” Singh said.

The Delhi Police was conducting an inquiry into it as well. As far as I have been informed, the Centre has taken action against it, he added.

In a major crackdown, the Central government has ordered removal of three Chinese apps — BAT-BMS, Lossigy, Epoch-i-ion — that were being misused to remotely disable battery-operated vehicles in the country, sources said on Friday.

The action came after some videos surfaced showing that some e-rickshaws were being rendered inoperable through a remote shutdown feature linked to the Chinese smartphone application BAT-BMS.
