Yellow alert issued for Delhi, thunderstorm and gusty winds expected

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty winds between 40 to 50 kilometre per hour

A yellow alert has been issued for Delhi on Wednesday, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of a thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and gusty winds. The alert serves as an early warning signal, indicating that severe weather may disrupt daily life.

The IMD forecast includes wind speeds between 40 to 50 kilometres per hour. The maximum temperature is likely to settle at 34 degrees Celsius. In the morning, the city recorded a minimum temperature of 24.7 degrees Celsius, which is 2.2 degrees below normal. Relative humidity at 8:30 am stood at 71 per cent.

Delhi’s air quality remained in the ‘moderate’ category, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 181 at 9 am. As per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), an AQI between zero and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51–100 ‘satisfactory’, 101–200 ‘moderate’, 201–300 ‘poor’, 301–400 ‘very poor’, and 401–500 ‘severe’.

On Tuesday, the capital registered a maximum temperature of 33.1 degrees Celsius, 6.9 degrees below the season’s average, while the minimum was 24.6 degrees Celsius, 2.3 degrees below normal.

Delhi also recorded 186.4 mm of rainfall in May, making it the wettest May on record. This year’s rainfall surpassed the previous record of 165 mm, which was set in 2008.
