A group exhibition titled Art Vanguards of Rajasthan – Rasa Panchaka, curated by Nikhat Ansari, will be on view at the Visual Art Gallery, India Habitat Centre from April 24 to April 30. The exhibition opens on April 24 at 5:00 PM and will remain open daily from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
Bringing together five artists—Shail Choyal, Ankit Patel, Purna Chandra Kishan, Dharmendra Rathore, and Chandra Shekhar Sain—the exhibition explores varied practices rooted in tradition, memory, and lived experience. The idea of “Rasa Panchaka” draws from five distinct artistic expressions, each reflecting a different emotional and cultural essence.
Choyal’s work revisits the intricacies of Rajasthani miniature painting, reinterpreting its structure and detailing within a contemporary framework. Patel’s sculptures emerge from memories of rural life, translating everyday experiences and personal journeys into form.
Kishan’s paintings examine the relationship between Nari and Prakriti, presenting them as interconnected entities while also engaging with environmental concerns through layered, meditative landscapes. Rathore draws from mythology and philosophical traditions, including Buddhist thought, to construct narratives that bridge past and present.
Sain works across terracotta and painting, combining elements of Rajasthani folk traditions with contemporary concerns, with a focus on rural life, culture, and human emotion.
Together, the exhibition presents a range of artistic approaches that engage with tradition while responding to contemporary ideas.
