A Kathak evening paying tribute to composers Pandit Jwala Prasad and Pandit Madho Prasad and marking Guru Shovana Narayan’s five decades of dance

ASAVARI will present Continuing Tradition 2025, an evening of dance, remembrance and reflection, at the Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre, on December 16. The programme brings together a tribute to legendary composers Pandit Jwala Prasad and Pandit Madho Prasad, the celebration of Padmashri Guru Shovana Narayan’s five decades of Kathak, and the launch of her biography, I Am A Fleeting Moment in Time.

This year’s edition honours the enduring musical legacy of Pandit Jwala Prasad and Pandit Madho Prasad, whose compositions have shaped generations of classical performers and form the core of many of Guru Shovana Narayan’s most acclaimed choreographies. The evening also marks Guruji’s remarkable journey as a performer, guru, choreographer, scholar and author, whose guidance has nurtured countless disciples.

“This evening is a heartfelt offering to the musical visionaries who shaped my artistic path and to my disciples whose sincerity and commitment keep the flame of tradition alive,” says Guru Shovana Narayan. “Art grows deeper and more meaningful when it is shared across generations.”

The programme will open with the release of the biography authored by Maya Parijat, followed by a panel discussion moderated by Vinita Dawra Nangia, reflecting on Guruji’s creative and personal journey. The second half will feature the sixth edition of Continuing Tradition, with senior disciples presenting selected compositions of Pandit Jwala Prasad and Pandit Madho Prasad in dance. The evening also concludes the year-long celebration of Guru Shovana Narayan’s seventy-fifth year.
