SPIC MACAY, in collaboration with the Aga Khan Trust for Culture, will present a three-day folk and tribal arts and crafts festival at Sunder Nursery Amphitheatre from November 21 to 23.
Supported by the Delhi government’s Department of Art, Culture and Language, Sudha Sangini and Doordarshan, the festival will showcase diverse folk and tribal traditions through performances, workshops and interactions with artists.
According to organisers, the initiative aims to engage young audiences with India’s traditional knowledge systems and reinforce SPIC MACAY’s focus on cultural preservation and the guru-shishya parampara. “Through this festival, we aim to inspire young minds, support the preservation of our cultural heritage, and foster the guru shishya parampara,” said Suman Doonga, convenor of the festival.
Each evening will feature performances representing different regions of the country. The opening day will include Mangala Isai Nadaswaram by S Kandaswamy and group from Tamil Nadu, followed by Purulia Chhau (West Bengal), Seraikela Chhau (Jharkhand) and Ottanthullal (Kerala).
On November 22, the lineup includes Baul Sangeet by Lakshman Das and group from West Bengal, Hojagiri by Debasis Reang and group from Tripura, and Manipur’s Thougal Jagoi presented by Dr Nganbi Chanu and troupe.
The final day will present Ghussadi by Kanaka Sudarshan and group from Telangana, Meghalaya’s Wangala dance and a concluding Qawwali performance by the Warsi Brothers from Rampur, Uttar Pradesh.

Daytime sessions, beginning at 11:30 AM, will transform Sunder Nursery into a craft village, where award-winning artisans will conduct workshops in Madhubani, Warli, Gond and Bhil painting, terracotta and bamboo crafts, calligraphy, sikki grass weaving, wood-carved calligraphy and papier-mâché. Artisans from Bihar, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Tripura will participate.
Organisers said the workshops are designed to offer visitors an opportunity to observe traditional processes and interact directly with master practitioners.
The festival is open to the public. Evening performances will begin at 6:30 PM.
