An exhibition titled Dvaita: Dualities, curated by Ankon Mitra, will open at The Lexicon Art on April 18 and continue till May 18.
Drawing upon the philosophical idea of dualism, the exhibition brings together 11 artists exploring opposites—black and white, gold and silver, geometric and amorphous, heavy and light—through paintings, sculptures, installations and murals. The show reflects on how such contrasts, deeply embedded in everyday Indian life, ultimately gesture towards Advaita (oneness).
The curatorial approach moves away from the conventional “white cube” gallery format, instead embracing layered, immersive juxtapositions. Works are placed in dynamic relationships across walls, ceilings, canvas and steel, allowing viewers to experience tension, resonance and overlap rather than isolation.
The exhibition takes inspiration from the lived realities of India, where contrasts coexist seamlessly—mansions beside slums, orderly avenues alongside urban disrepair, and human and animal life intersecting in shared spaces. These dualities, rather than suggesting chaos, are framed as a complex and organic order.
Participating artists include Divyendu Anand, Keshari Nandan, Meenakshi Jha Banerjee, Naman Mahipal, Neerja Chandna Peters, Nimesh Patel, Pratap Chandra Chakraborty, Shalini Mithal, Shovin Bhattacharjee and Vinod Daroz, alongside the curator himself.
