Remembering Manna Dey

What: ‘Zindagi kaisi hai paheli haye, Kabhi toh hasaye, kabhi yeh rulaye’…

This alluring song from the famous film “Anand” reverberates in our mind even today. Bollywood’s legendary singer Manna Dey has immortalised many such songs. In honour of his 99th birthday, if you want to get a feel of his undying lyrical pieces, you might want to attend the upcoming event. His popular semi-classical songs and romantic duets will be performed live by Anil Sambhor and Baani.  What could be a better way to honour the maestro?

Creative hangover

What: Have you ever had a creative hangover?  If not, then be ready for one. You might want to discover the Picasso in you while tasting some wine this weekend in the upcoming event ‘Drink ‘n’ Paint’ in Gurgaon. Try new methods of painting by combining cocktails with paints. Even if it’s your first time, don’t hesitate to take up that paint brush and give it a try.

Purani Dilli ki Dastan

What: “Dil ki Basti Puraani Dilli hai, jo bhi guzra hai usne luta hai…”

Want to explore the enticing world of Old Delhi’s bygone era? Then you should not give this event a miss. A musical narrative ‘Shahjahanabad: Purani Dilli ki Dastaan’, featuring Zakia Zaheer, Syeda Hameed, Rene Singh, Avni Sethi and Lokesh Jain, will unfold the rich culture and history of Old Delhi.

Life as a circus

What: A painter, using his paintbrush as a ‘weapon’, portrays the prevailing ironies and dichotomies of the Indian society. Biswajit Das, a visual artist, has come up with a solo exhibition of his paintings called ‘The Indian Circus’. Maybe he is looking for an answer, or maybe he wants you to look for it.

When: April 21 to 26

Living with leprosy

What: All those who were abandoned by their families after being diagnosed with leprosy, are in need of a voice. A voice against the prejudices and discrimination they face in our society, the photo exhibition ‘Our Lives’ by Natsuko Tominaga, (in collaboration with The Nippon Foundation and India Leprosy Foundation Sasakawa), aims to portray the lives of those living with leprosy. It aims to remove the immoral prejudices against leprosy patients.

When: April 20 – May 1

Woodwork workshop

What: Ever thought of carving your own table? Put on your denims and head to Maker’s Asylum to learn how to create magic out of wood. Sulakshana, the owner of Mishtoomade will guide you on how to use jigsaw, circular saw and other tools to create your own side table. The workshop will continue over three consecutive Saturdays.

When: April 21  –May 5  (12 pm-4 pm)

Parenting puppies

 

What: Finding it difficult to control your puppy from chewing up all your shoes? Then you should check out the puppy training workshop being hosted by Heads Up For Tails this weekend. From toilet training to destructive chewing, all your little fur ball’s issues will be addressed by canine behaviourist, Angela D’Souza

Art for Earth’s sake

What: On World Earth Day, All Sorts of Things (ASOT) is organising Plastic Ka Ped, a workshop and exhibition educating people on how to reuse, recycle and recreate. Join them for sessions on intricate calligraphy, origami, papier mache and graffiti painting. People from different backgrounds will discuss solar energy, garbage disposal, food meditation and others. In the evening, Drummers of Gurugram and Delhi will keep you engaged with their beats.
