All about paper
What: Paper – a surface to write, draw, doodle or print. To mark or stain. A material to fold or layer, to cut, puncture or impress. Explored by artists as matter, method or metaphor, paper kindles a sense of nostalgia and a sense of being made by hand. Recent works of such six artists who work with paper as the medium are on display at the exhibition titled ‘Of Paper.’ This group show features an exploration of forms that shape our natural and constructed environment, fueling an understanding of its limits and its immensity. The six artists share a knowledge of geometry and an interest in the structural make-up of our surroundings — natural and man-made, expressed in different ways, in and of paper.

Siesta time
What: Juxtaposing objects of daily use with a different environment or a background, artist Jasleena Singh’s work has evolved from kitsch art toward a subtler palette. On display at the exhibition titled ‘Like Siesta’, her works ooze nostalgia for a slow-paced urban life. These still life paintings delineate the most mundane objects like lamps, gramophone or a simple cane chair, representing intrinsic domesticity. At times the object or the main-form (positive space) is from the past and the background (negative space) from the contemporary time zone. Ranging from literal interpretations to metaphorical synthesis, these paintings incorporate dreams, emotions and expressions that influence her work.
