Art tutorials

What: To do something to help fellow artists and help the community at the same time in these unprecedented times, artist Venkat Shyam had posted online art tutorial videos of Gond artists. The videos were really loved by people and encouraged them to initiate live online art classes. Shyam states that art is truly therapeutic and hopes it will help the viewers as much as it’s helping him. All proceeds from the sales of these art workshops will be passed directly to other Gond artists. This will be a two-hour class for beginners and will be conducted over Zoom.  Children above 8 as well as adults can join.

Global theatre

What: For theatre aficionados, here’s the chance to catch world renowned Shakespeare’s Globe 2019 production of The Merry Wives of Windsor for free. The original performance took place at the Globe Theatre, London, in summer 2019 and is now available to stream on YouTube. This play is the only comedy that Shakespeare set in his native land. Drawing influences from British 1930s fashion, music and dance, the production celebrates women, the power and beauty of nature. With its witty mix of verbal and physical humour, it rejoices in a tradition that reaches right down to the contemporary English sitcom. Imagining that Mistress Ford and Mistress Page have each fallen for him, the fat knight Sir John Falstaff decides to seduce them both, as much for their husbands’ money as for their personal charms. Wise to the old rogue’s tricks, the women turn the tables on him with a series of humiliating assignations and a very damp, extremely smelly laundry basket. Watch to know what happens next.

Looking back

What: “History will remember the lockdown of the 2020 pandemic as the least photographed crisis the world witnessed in over a century” reads Photoink gallery’s curatorial note. In times of social distancing, social media, the self-appointed arbitrator and influencer of our age, is now the only way to connect with each other. How did we get here? Their ongoing online exhibition looks through the archives of their artists to find photographs that propose quietude and introspection. The title of the show revisits Maya Angelou’s poem of the same name – A Brave and Startling Truth, during these times serves as a beacon, a call, a declaration to all.
