Curated by Archana Khare-Ghose, the show highlights Sud’s intimate watercolours alongside Kaur’s portraits and allegories

Dhoomimal Gallery will present ‘In Dialogue, Across Time’, a rare exhibition that brings together senior artist Anupam Sud and her former student Harshdeep Kaur, at Bikaner House from September 19 to 25. The show, curated by Archana Khare-Ghose, will open with a reception on September 19 at 5 pm in The Ballroom.

Anupam Sud, widely regarded as one of India’s foremost printmakers and painters, is known for her mastery of figurative compositions and finely detailed draughtsmanship. Over a career spanning five decades, her etchings and prints have become benchmarks of contemporary Indian art. The exhibition, however, highlights her lesser-seen watercolours—works that reveal a more intimate and fluid dimension of her practice.

In contrast yet in conversation, Harshdeep Kaur’s works explore spirituality, identity, and portraiture through acrylics, Chinese ink, and watercolours. A former student of Sud at Delhi College of Art, Kaur’s portraits and allegorical landscapes bring a younger, emotive sensibility that complements her mentor’s vision while striking out with her own contemporary voice.

The exhibition is conceived as more than a showcase of artworks—it is framed as a dialogue across generations, where Sud’s watercolours converse with Kaur’s explorations of form and meaning. “In Dialogue, Across Time celebrates mentorship, growth, and the enduring cycle of learning and creating,” says curator Archana Khare-Ghose.

Among the highlights are rare watercolours by Sud alongside Kaur’s portraits, landscapes, and allegorical works, offering viewers a glimpse into the shared lineage and evolving expressions of teacher and student.
