The Raza Foundation, in collaboration with Triveni Kala Sangam and supported by Progressive Art Gallery, will present ‘Jangarh Kalam from Patangarh Continued’, a major exhibition of Gond tribal art, from June 30 to July 10 at Shridharani Art Gallery, New Delhi.
The exhibition honours the legacy of Jangarh Singh Shyam, a pioneering tribal artist from Patangarh, Madhya Pradesh, who transformed the visual language of Gond painting into a recognised contemporary art form known as Jangarh Kalam.
This landmark exhibition brings together over 200 original artworks by more than 50 tribal artists, many of whom are students, followers, or family members of Jangarh Singh Shyam. The works explore mythologies, forest life, urban transformation, and ecological memory, while also experimenting with new formats like scrolls and digital art.
Curated by Harsh Vardhan Singh, the exhibition positions Gond art as a dynamic and evolving practice, rooted in ancestral knowledge yet open to modern realities. It is intended as a space for both celebration and critical engagement with the living tradition of tribal expression.
Progressive Art Gallery has acquired the entire collection on display, in a move aimed at promoting ethical patronage and ensuring fair financial support for the participating artists. The gallery has a long history of supporting Indian modern and tribal artists, and this acquisition continues its commitment to inclusive representation.

In addition to the exhibition, visitors can attend guided walkthroughs led by artists, drawing workshops for schoolchildren, public lectures on tribal art, film screenings, and a documentary on Patangarh’s artistic legacy.
“This is not just an art show, it’s a cultural movement,” said Singh. “The Gond artists of Patangarh are not preserving the past—they’re creating the future.”
