Shriram Bharatiya Kala Kendra will present the 49th edition of Krishna, its acclaimed dance drama based on the life of Lord Krishna, from August 12 to 16 at Kamani Auditorium, Mandi House. Evening shows will begin at 6:30 PM daily, with matinee performances at 3 PM on August 14, 15 and 16. Tickets are available on BookMyShow and at the venue from August 9 onwards.
First staged in 1977, Krishna has grown into one of the Kendra’s most enduring productions. Conceptualised and directed by Padma Shri Shobha Deepak Singh, the production explores key episodes from Krishna’s life—from his childhood in Vrindavan to his role in the Mahabharata, culminating in the philosophical teachings of the Bhagavad Gita.
The choreography is by Shashidharan Nair, assisted by Raj Kumar Sharma, Repertory In-charge at the Kendra. Performed by the Kendra Dance Repertory, the production integrates Indian classical and folk-dance styles, symbolic animations, and a music score that blends classical ragas with regional idioms.
The cast this year includes several new dancers who have recently joined the repertory, bringing fresh energy to the work. Supported by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and Shriram Pistons & Rings Ltd, the production features elaborate costumes, traditional jewellery and stylised stagecraft.
In keeping with the National Education Policy 2020’s emphasis on cultural learning, the Kendra has invited schools to special morning shows on August 12 and 13. These sessions will include a 75-minute performance followed by an interactive workshop on the artistic and philosophical aspects of Krishna’s character.

Now in its fifth decade, Krishna continues to draw audiences across generations. The production remains a signature work in the Kendra’s repertory and a cultural landmark in the capital’s performance calendar.
