The National School of Drama (NSD) will present the Winter Theatre Festival 2025 from December 26 to 28 at the NCUI Auditorium, New Delhi, bringing together some of the most popular and thematically rich productions from its Repertory Company.
The three-day festival seeks to engage audiences with meaningful and accessible Hindi theatre, offering performances that combine artistic rigour with social insight. Through satire, folk traditions, and music-led storytelling, the festival foregrounds theatre as a space for reflection as well as entertainment.
The programme opens on December 26 with Taj Mahal Ka Tender, a sharp satire that uses humour to comment on contemporary administrative systems and social contradictions.
On December 27, Babu Ji will be staged — a vibrant production rooted in nautanki and folk music traditions, weaving together human emotions, family values, and social realities with humour and poignancy.
The festival concludes on December 28 with Mai Ri Main Kase Kahun, a moving musical narrative that draws from folk sensibilities to explore the emotional depth and inner world of women.
The festival is being organised at the NCUI Auditorium, located in South Delhi, with the support of Delhi Tourism and the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
According to Rajesh Singh, Head of the NSD Repertory Company, this is the first time NSD is hosting a Winter Theatre Festival in South Delhi. “The festival aims to offer theatre lovers a memorable experience through accomplished performances, strong direction, and thoughtful stage design by seasoned NSD artists,” he said.
The productions feature performances by senior NSD artistes and directors including Chitranjan Tripathi, Shrivardhan Trivedi, Rajesh Singh, Shiv Prasad, Suman Kumar, Rehman, Pooja Gupta, and Shilpa Bharti, among others.
