Sarangi Legacy 2023: A celebration of dance and music

The festival of music and dance will commence at 7 PM on October 26 at the Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi

The Sarangi Cultural Academy is set to host Sarangi Legacy 2023, a musical concert dedicated to the revered memory of Padma Bhushan Late Ustad Sabri Khan Sahab, a Sarangi Maestro, on October 26. The event will be held at Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre, located on Lodhi Road, New Delhi.

The evening promises enchanting classical performances featuring Nabeel Khan on sarangi, accompanied by Zuheb Ahmed on Tabla. The audience will also be treated to a mesmerizing Tabla Jugalbandi by Ustad Rashid Mustafa Thirakwa and Shariq Mustafa, with Ahsan Ali Khan on Sarangi. Additionally, Abhimanyu Lal will showcase Kathak dance, accompanied by Ustad Nasir Khan on Sarangi, Yogesh Gangani on Tabla, Samiullah Khan on Vocals, Ashish Gangani on Pakhawaj, and Salim Kumar on Sitar.

In a conversation with Patriot, Shabnam Khan, the General Secretary of Sarangi Cultural Academy, emphasized the healing power of music. She stated, “Music is the best medicine for the world’s misery. It brings people together without barriers, and Sarangi Cultural Academy has been founded to empower young people to infuse our world with the spirit of hope. Its core aim is to inspire young minds to learn Indian Classical music, especially in today’s overwhelming world.”

Khan further explained, “The academy also strives to equip children from less resourceful backgrounds with proper training and skill support to fulfill their musical ambitions. The goal is to promote Indian classical music and Sarangi globally, including Sufi, Folk, and various other music genres.”

Nabeel Khan, a renowned Indian Classical Sarangi Artist, echoed the sentiment, stating, “Sarangi is too soulful and vital an instrument to slip into oblivion. Therefore, the aim of Sarangi Cultural Academy is to spread awareness about Sarangi and Indian Classical Music worldwide. Our Legacy series stands as a prime example of such initiatives.”

The event will be graced by distinguished Chief Guests, including Professor Minu Bakshi, a renowned Writer, and Singer; Pranaame Bhagawati, Director of Kathak Kendra; H.E. Javier Manuel Paulinich, Ambassador of Peru; H.E. Federico Salas, Ambassador of Mexico; H.E. Jose Maria Ridao, Ambassador of Spain; Fabio Subia Diaz, Secretary at the Embassy of Peru; Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, the eminent Sarod Maestro; Pt. Rajendra Gangani, a distinguished Kathak Maestro, and Pt. Ram Narayan, the esteemed Sarangi Maestro.
