Latitude- 28, a prominent art gallery in New Delhi, is thrilled to extend a warm invitation to art enthusiasts, critics, and the general public to its upcoming group exhibition, “Which Sky do Birds Fly”.
Co-curated by Saloni Jaiwal, a versatile writer and photographer, and Manan Shah, an accomplished museologist, writer, aspiring art curator, and art critic, the exhibition promises to offer a thought-provoking exploration into the ever-evolving definitions of belonging in contemporary culture and the underlying politics of space.
This innovative exhibition will showcase the distinctive works of 11 talented artists, each contributing to the discourse on the shifting concepts of belonging against the backdrop of ongoing land disputes. By adopting diverse perspectives, these artists uncover alternative narratives that have shaped our present understanding of belonging, while also critiquing and challenging the dominant and often skewed narratives that influence individual perceptions through various forms of media.
The exhibition will feature works by numerous artists such as Deena Pindoria, Dola Shikder, Ipshita Maitra, Meenakshi Nihalani, Poorvi Sultania, Priyanka D’Souza, Salman Baba, Satyanarayana Gavara, Subrat Kumar Behera, Utpal Prajapati, and Walter D’ Souza.
“Through intricate interplays of contested narratives, the exhibition casts a probing light on the complex dance of belonging and space,” said Bhavna Kakar, the Founder-Director of Latitude-28.
“As our world transforms and diversifies, the artists’ perspectives beckon us to question the evolving definitions of belonging, the geopolitics of territories, and the very fabric of our interconnected existence. A nuanced exploration that resonates in our digital age, where history and myth converge, inviting us to unravel the mosaic of identities that shape our sense of place and purpose,” said Kakar.
