Gallerie Nvya presents Whimsical Lines: Urban Refrain through Tribal Abstraction, a solo exhibition by artist Bhuwal Prasad. The exhibition runs from April 4 to 9 at Bikaner House, Centre for Contemporary Art, before moving to Gallerie Nvya, Square One Designer Arcade, Saket, from May 24 to June 28.

Bhuwal Prasad, a contemporary artist from Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh, brings a unique fusion of indigenous Indian art and modern abstraction. His works feature bold lines, vibrant colours, and dynamic textures, reflecting a balance between cultural heritage and contemporary expression.

A graduate of BHU, Varanasi, and the College of Art, New Delhi, Bhuwal has exhibited his works internationally and received significant accolades, including the Junior Fellowship from the Ministry of Culture, Government of India (2018). His artistic journey is deeply rooted in traditional Indian folk art, drawing inspiration from Warli, Gond, and the Khovar-Sohrai traditions of Hazaribagh, while infusing them with a fresh, modern perspective.

His ‘Urban Crowd Filled’ series showcases abstract shapes forming recognisable objects—faces, birds, and even a telephone—creating a bustling, layered experience. His works, often crafted on unconventional materials like corrugated cardboard, jute, fibreglass, and automotive paint, add texture and depth, engaging viewers beyond the visual elements.

Bhuwal’s bold use of colour and rhythmic patterns recalls traditional Indian folk art, echoing ritualistic motifs found in chowk and alpana. His ability to merge rural artistic traditions with contemporary abstraction has earned him critical acclaim, establishing him as a significant voice in modern Indian art.
