Batsman Ayush Badoni’s century (100 off 106 balls; 12x4s, 4x6s) went in vain as none of the other batsmen could get to even 20 as Delhi struggled to 143 all out against Karnataka in the Vijay Hazare one-dayers being played in Ahmedabad. The Mayank Agarwal-led Karnataka scaled the target in 27.3 overs for the loss of only four wickets.
Devdutt Padikkal top-scored for the winning side with 70 off 69 balls in the game played on Monday.
After being put in to bat, Delhi started poorly, losing three wickets inside the first power-play. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals from one end but Badoni continued scoring runs briskly at the other end.
Delhi’s innings folded in 36.3 overs. Pace bowlers Vidhwath Kaverappa and Vasuki Koushik were the top wicket-takers for Karnataka with three scalps each.
Karnataka lost a wicket early but Padikkal, an Indian Premier League star, ensured that his team reached the target and moved to the top of the points table with 12. Haryana are in second place with the same number of points but inferior net run rate.
Delhi, who were on top of the points table before this game, have suddenly slipped to fourth behind even Chandigarh.
The next game for Yash Dhull’s side is against Jammu & Kashmir on November 29.
