Cricket: Delhi seniors lose to Karnataka, colts to Rajasthan

Delhi lost to Karnataka by six wickets in a Vijay Hazare Trophy one-day tie at Jadavpur University grounds in Kolkata on Thursday.

Delhi were all out for just 159 in 45.4 overs, failing to complete their full quota of overs. All-rounder Lalit Yadav scored 59 off 100 balls (7x4s) while captain Nitish Rana was the next highest scorer with 30.

Pacer Vasuki Koushik took 3/23 while leg-spinner Shreyas Gopal picked 3/25 to push Delhi to the wall.

Delhi failed to build partnerships as Karnataka kept picking wickets at regular intervals.

In response, Karnataka chased the total in 29.4 overs with four wickets to spare.

Opener Ravikumar Samarth made 59 off 73 deliveries (6x4s) whereas former India international Manish Pandey scored 48 off 37 balls (2x4s, 4x6s). Medium pacer Mayank Yadav scalped four wickets for 47 runs while India international Navdeep Saini took two for 31.

Delhi, who are in sixth spot in Group B, next play Sikkim on November 19.

U-19 team crumbles

The Delhi under-19 team lost to Rajasthan under-19 by an innings and seven runs in a Cooch Behar Trophy match played at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

Batting first, Rajasthan had scored 443 with No. 4 batsman Karan Singh (159) and No. 8 Himanshu Nehra (106) scoring centuries. Himanshu Pujari chipped in with 63.

For Delhi, right-arm pacer Divansh Rawat was the most successful bowler with four wickets for 81 runs. Lakshay Sehrawat and Yatish Singh picked two wickets each.

In response, Delhi were chugging along smoothly at 95/1 at one point in time before folding for 171 in their first innings. Left-handed opener Arpit Rana made 47 and No. 3 batsman Ankit Kumar scored 51.

Centurion Nehra took five wickets for 53 runs with his left-arm spin to hurt Delhi.

Delhi were forced to follow on but were all out for 265 in 93.2 overs in their second essay. Rana again was among runs as he scored 138 runs (16x4s, 3x6s) but could not get support from the other end. Wicketkeeper Yajas Sharma scored 49 while Raghav Singh made 47.

Delhi had won the first match against Nagaland by an innings and 253 runs. They next play Jharkhand at the Capital’s Karnail Singh Stadium from November 19.

Delhi are third in Group D points table with seven points behind Uttar Pradesh (13) and Rajasthan (10).
