In 2022, Delhi witnessed nearly 3 lakh criminal cases, marking a 3.3% rise compared to the previous year, according to the latest data released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
The NCRB’s annual crime report indicated that a total of 2,98,988 cases were registered under the Indian Penal Code in the national capital in 2022, in contrast to 2,89,045 in 2021. The figures for 2020 stood at 2,45,844.
The report highlighted that Delhi reported 501 murder cases in 2022, an increase from 454 and 461 in 2021 and 2020, respectively.
Furthermore, instances of ‘crime against women’ escalated to 14,158 cases in 2022, rising from 13,982 and 9,782 in the preceding two years.
Cybercrimes also surged to 685 cases in 2022, compared to 345 and 166 in 2021 and 2020, respectively, as stated by the NCRB.
Regarding crimes against children, the data displayed an increase from 7,029 cases in 2021 to 7,400 in 2022. In 2020, the reported cases were 5,256.
The statistics on kidnapping and abduction depicted an upward trend, with 5,585 cases recorded in 2022. The figures for this crime were 5,475 and 4,011 in 2021 and 2020, respectively.
Moreover, the NCRB’s findings revealed a rise in cases related to crimes against elderly citizens, increasing from 1,166 to 1,313 between 2021 and 2022. (With inputs from PTI)
