Police announced on Saturday that the synchronisation of traffic lights in the western part of Delhi has significantly reduced congestion calls by more than 16 percent in April compared to the same period last year.

In an ongoing effort to alleviate traffic congestion in western Delhi, the traffic police’s western range has embarked on a substantial initiative to synchronise and recalibrate the timing of traffic signals at various junctions.

“We have successfully synchronised 60 traffic lights across 20 junctions, primarily in Dwarka, Nangloi, and Paschim Vihar traffic circles. By the end of April, we observed a notable decrease in congestion reports within the western range area,” stated the police.

“In comparison to March 2024, there was a decrease of 59 congestion calls. In April 2023, we received 453 such calls, whereas this year, the number reduced to 378. This progress underscores our dedication to enhancing traffic flow and improving commuting experiences,” explained a senior police officer.

The police highlighted that the synchronisation initiative has improved traffic flow by coordinating signal timings, resulting in reduced wait times at intersections and smoother transitions for vehicles. This, in turn, decreases the likelihood of accidents, creating safer road conditions for all road users.

Residents and commuters traversing Dwarka, Nangloi, and Paschim Vihar now enjoy expedited travel, contributing to overall convenience and productivity.

This strategic endeavour aims to streamline traffic flow, enhance safety, and optimise commuting experiences in these bustling areas. By synchronising traffic signals, the police have minimized stop-and-go traffic patterns, facilitating smoother vehicular movement and reducing travel times.

“The meticulously planned and executed synchronisation project reflects our commitment to implementing innovative solutions to tackle traffic challenges. Through advanced technology and data-driven approaches, we have synchronised these critical junctions to enhance efficiency and minimise delays,” the officer stated.

This synchronisation initiative aligns with broader planning strategies aimed at fostering sustainable and accessible transportation networks. As Delhi continues to develop, the implementation of innovative traffic management solutions remains essential to ensuring the city’s livability and resilience, the police emphasized.
