Kolkata-based self-taught artist Nikita Agarwal is set to showcase her new solo exhibition, “Ripples of Reflection” at Bikaner House, LTC Gallery in Delhi from August 1 to August 4, 2024. The art exhibition will be open to the public daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., with a special opening event featuring a wine preview on August 1.
Agarwal’s work explores the spiritual aspects of Varanasi through bold brushstrokes, dynamic forms, and a vibrant colour palette. “I wanted to capture the timeless vibrancy of Varanasi’s ghats,” Agarwal says. “The city’s spiritual essence is reflected in the rich blues and purples of my paintings”.
Her abstract paintings depict scenes from the ghats, including saffron-clad sadhus and marigold offerings along the Ganges River, highlighting Varanasi’s mix of tradition and modernity. “I aim to celebrate the harmonious blend of tradition and modernity in Varanasi,” she explains.

The artist draws inspiration from nature, echoing Claude Monet’s belief that nature is a source of creative richness. Her paintings use a blend of colours to reflect the spirit of Varanasi, from the blues of the Ganges to the oranges and reds associated with local rituals. “Nature is my ultimate source of inspiration,” says Agarwal. “The dynamic spirit of Varanasi can be seen in the tranquil blues and fiery oranges of my work”.
Agarwal’s works include architectural motifs and patterns that portray Varanasi’s vibrant texture. In her “Divine Series,” she uses mixed media to represent the city’s spiritual energy. One notable piece features sadhus and a Nandi, symbolizing patience and divine anticipation. “The piece with sadhus and Nandi is particularly meaningful to me,” Agarwal said. “It embodies the patience and anticipation woven into Varanasi’s divine symbolism.”
Following art exhibitions in Kolkata, India Habitat Centre in New Delhi, and Chitrakala Parishath in Bangalore, Agarwal brings her Varanasi-themed art to Bikaner House. Her paintings aim to transport viewers to the ancient city’s spiritual and cultural landscapes. “My goal is to take viewers on a journey into the soul of Varanasi,” she said. “Each painting serves as a portal to where spirituality, culture, and history converge.”
“Ripples of Reflection” invites art enthusiasts to explore the rich heritage and beauty of Varanasi through Agarwal’s paintings, offering a glimpse into the city’s spiritual and historical significance.
