A 13-year-old boy lost his life due to electrocution after coming into contact with an electric pole while playing cricket in the Ranhola area of outer Delhi, according to police reports on Sunday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Jimmy Chiram stated, “We received a PCR call at 1.27 pm on Saturday at the Ranhola police station regarding the electrocution death of a boy.”
Upon investigation, the police learned that the boy, who was playing cricket in Kotla Vihar Phase-2, was electrocuted when he touched an iron pole that was supplying electricity to a nearby gaushala. He was immediately transported to DDU Hospital by a PCR van, where he was declared dead on arrival, the DCP added.
An FIR has been filed under Section 106 (1) of the BNS, and an investigation is ongoing, police confirmed.
The boy’s mother, Anita Devi, has called for strict action against the gaushala and the Power Department. She recounted that her son, a class seven student at a government school, had gone to play cricket with friends on Saturday. He was electrocuted while retrieving the ball near the gaushala. Devi emphasized that many young children play cricket in that area, and such a tragedy could happen to anyone. She expressed frustration that no one intervened to help when her son was electrocuted, despite her elder son’s desperate pleas for assistance.
Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva expressed his sorrow over the incident and demanded an investigation. He noted that this marks the seventh such death in Delhi due to the negligence of power companies, calling for criminal negligence charges to be brought against the responsible power discoms in all cases of fatal electrocution this year.
