The Urvashi Dance Music Art and Cultural Society, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, is set to present the Guru Vandana Kathak Dance Festival on August 18, at 6:30 PM at the Triveni Auditorium, Mandi House, Delhi. This festival is a tribute to the ancient and revered Guru-Shishya Parampara, celebrating the rich heritage of Kathak, one of India’s classical dance forms.
The event will feature captivating performances by the disciples of Guru Rekha Mehra, including Himani Gautam, Gaurav Javda, and Deepak Javda. These artists will showcase their mastery of Kathak through intricate footwork, expressive storytelling, and a deep connection to the cultural roots of this classical dance tradition.
Guru Vandana, which translates to “Reverence for the Teacher”, reflects the deep respect and bond between students and their mentors in the classical arts. The festival’s repertoire will include a diverse array of performances such as Ganesh Vandana, Devi Stuti, Krishna Dance, and the Shiv Tandav, each paying homage to the divine and the cultural significance embedded in Kathak.
Speaking about the upcoming event, Guru Rekha Mehra, President of the Urvashi Dance Music Art and Cultural Society, said, “This event is not only a celebration of the intricate and beautiful art form of Kathak but also honours the sacred Guru-Shishya Parampara, which is the cornerstone of our cultural heritage.
