Delhi Police have issued prohibitory orders in central areas of the national capital in response to protest calls from multiple organisations against the Kolkata doctor rape-murder case on Friday, officials said.
The deployment of police personnel has been increased, and Section 163 (prohibitory orders) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) has been enforced near the Parliament and other parts of central Delhi, they added.
A Delhi Police officer mentioned that the city remains on high alert due to the upcoming Independence Day celebrations. He also noted that traffic at some intersections in central Delhi has been diverted due to the announced protests.
The alleged rape and murder of a trainee woman doctor at the state-run R G Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata have sparked widespread protests across the country.
Several resident doctors’ associations (RDAs), including those from AIIMS and Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, have planned a protest gathering near Nirman Bhawan on Friday.

The Federation of Resident Doctors Association (FORDA) has called for a candle march at India Gate at 6 pm.
Delhi University’s Krantikari Yuya Sangthan has organised a protest at 2 pm at Mandi House, while the Congress’s student wing NSUI has scheduled a protest at 7:30 pm at Jantar Mantar.
Earlier in the day, hundreds of women participated in another march organised by the RSS-linked Nari Shakti Forum, protesting alleged atrocities against minorities in Bangladesh. This march started from Mandi House and will conclude at Jantar Mantar.
