Gallery Art Motif, in collaboration with the Quilt India Foundation, is set to host The Art of Quilting, an exhibition that delves into the evolving tradition of quilting in India. The showcase will be inaugurated on November 30, with an open house from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM. It will remain on display until December 28, 2024, from Monday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, at the gallery in Safdarjung Enclave.
The exhibition highlights quilting’s transformation from functional bed coverings to a contemporary art form. Regional quilting traditions, known for their distinctive styles and techniques, are brought into focus, showcasing how the craft has evolved into an expressive medium that blurs the lines between art and utility.
Each quilt on display offers a unique narrative, reflecting themes such as personal experiences, nature, social commentary, and abstract ideas. Artists have employed techniques like piecing and appliqué, along with intricate surface embellishments, to add depth and texture to their work.

Participating artists include Aiswarya Rao, Aman Bhooi, Arundhati Vas, Canie Franklin, Kuppulakshmi Somasekhar, Lisa O’Brien, Madhuri Sapru, Manjusha Shete, Meena Radhakrishnan, Rainy Khurana Sarna, Ramamani Ravikumar, Saira Abdullah, Sujata Thorat, Tina Katwal, and Varsha Sundararajan.
The Art of Quilting celebrates Indian quilting’s craftsmanship, innovation, and artistic potential. According to organisers, the exhibition seeks to connect diverse audiences and generations, showcasing how this traditional craft has embraced modern aesthetics.
