The Delhi Traffic Police has issued over 49,000 challans for improper parking across 14 markets in the national capital as of October 31 this year, reflecting a 26.2% increase compared to the same period last year, according to official data.
The markets include Karol Bagh, Sadar Bazar, Chandni Chowk, Kamla Nagar, Gandhi Nagar, Vikas Marg, Sarojini Nagar, Green Park, Lajpat Nagar, Yusuf Sarai, Mahipalpur, Rajouri Garden, Tilak Nagar, and Sector-10 Dwarka, an official stated.
In 2023, 39,100 challans were issued by October 31, rising to 49,348 this year.
“These 14 markets experience significant daily footfall. The data indicates stricter enforcement of parking regulations in these busy commercial areas,” the traffic police official added.
The penalty for improper parking in Delhi is Rs 500.
Additionally, 28,935 vehicles were towed from these markets by October 31 this year, compared to 22,928 during the same period last year.

Separately, more than 39,000 vehicles were prosecuted for improper parking at the city’s four major railway stations by October 22 this year, another official revealed.
Old Delhi Railway Station accounted for the highest number of challans at 14,949, followed by New Delhi Railway Station (13,122), Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station (8,089), and Delhi Cantt Railway Station (3,527).
At Old Delhi Railway Station, challans were issued to 5,526 auto-rickshaws, 1,070 buses, 1,145 taxis, 3,596 e-rickshaws, and 3,612 other vehicles.
A total of 1,460 vehicles were towed from these railway stations, with New Delhi Railway Station recording the highest number at 757.
