New Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 21.7°C on Tuesday, 4.8 degrees below the seasonal average, as the city braced for moderate rainfall, the weather department said.
Heavy showers overnight left parts of the capital drenched. Till 8:30 am, the city’s main weather station logged 37.8 mm of rain, while Lodhi Road recorded 35.2 mm. Other areas saw even heavier rainfall, with Ayanagar reporting 95 mm and Palam 57.4 mm.
The maximum temperature for the day is expected to reach 31°C, the department added.
Air quality in the city was recorded at 50 at 9 am, placing it in the ‘satisfactory’ category. According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), an AQI of 0–50 is considered ‘good’, 51–100 ‘satisfactory’, 101–200 ‘moderate’, 201–300 ‘poor’, 301–400 ‘very poor’, and 401–500 ‘severe’.
The intermittent rains in the national capital on Monday also kept the maximum temperature below average — 30.8 degrees Celsius, 3.7 notches below normal. The minimum temperature on Monday settled at 23.7 degrees Celsius, 2.8 degrees below normal, according to the weather department.
The air quality was recorded in the ‘satisfactory’ category at 4 PM on Monday, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) reading of 60, Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data showed.
The humidity level fluctuated between 90 and 71 per cent during the day, the MeT said.
