A solo exhibition of works by the late artist Mona Bendre, titled The Poetics of the Ordinary, will open at Art Magnum on February 1. Curated by Subhra Mazumdar and Gayatri Mathur, the exhibition includes 23 works and will run until March 14. It is open from 11 AM to 7 PM, with Sunday visits by appointment.
The exhibition features interiors, modest landscapes, still-life arrangements, floral compositions, and select early works from the late 1960s. Bendre’s palette is largely earthy, with maroon browns, muted ochres, and layered tonal surfaces. Some still-life works include brighter colours such as reds, yellows, and metallic tones.

Floral compositions, often based on blossoms from the artist’s garden, appear throughout the exhibition. Early works demonstrate Bendre’s use of impasto and texture, while landscapes and interiors form a recurring motif.
