A survey exhibition bringing together 156 prints by 80 artists to examine the relevance of printmaking in the age of AI and digital image culture

An exhibition titled Print Age, presented by Uday and Sunaina Jain of Dhoomimal Gallery, will open at Dhoomimal Gallery, Connaught Place, New Delhi, on February 4. Organised alongside the 17th edition of the India Art Fair, the exhibition examines the enduring relevance of printmaking in an age increasingly shaped by digital and artificial intelligence–driven practices.

Open to the public until March 15, the exhibition can be visited daily from 11 AM to 7 PM. Print Age brings together 156 prints by 80 artists, spanning modern masters, contemporary practitioners and emerging voices, offering a broad survey of printmaking techniques and histories.

The exhibition traces the evolution of printmaking from its earliest origins to the present, foregrounding the medium’s deep connection to manual skill, reproducibility and innovation. Works on view include woodcuts, linocuts, lithographs, serigraphs, chromolithographs, etchings, drypoints, aquatints and viscosity prints, demonstrating the continued vitality of handmade processes even as image culture is reshaped by AI-generated imagery.

Alongside works by internationally renowned artists such as Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall and Anish Kapoor, the exhibition features seminal Indian printmakers including Laxma Goud and Jyoti Bhatt, as well as younger artists working across traditional and contemporary modes. Together, the works highlight how printmaking continues to adapt, absorb new technologies and retain material and cultural significance.

Curated by JohnyML, the exhibition situates printmaking within a broader cultural and historical context, drawing from important private and institutional collections in Baroda, Ahmedabad and Delhi. Contributions include works from the Ravin Collection, the Hitesh Rana Collection, studio-produced works by Dushyant Patel and Rajesh Makwana, and the Dhoomimal Gallery collection.
